When God created Adam and gave him a huge task to complete (take care of this world) he knew that he would need help. Here’s how he put it:
“It is not good for the man to be alone; I’ll make a helper fit for him.”
So it makes sense that in sending his 12 disciples out into the world to take back the world, Jesus would give them a Helper, the Holy Spirit. When we come to John 16 we know that he’s already introduced this to them over the dinner table. Now, on the way to the Garden of Gethsemane where he will be arrested, he is going to expand for them an explanation of how that Helper will assist them on their mission.
