Thank God For God
The Holidays are right around the corner and I love them. But sometimes I dread them. Stuart Smalley, comic creation of Al Franken, once said, “Alcoholism is a three stage disease: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.” For some he holidays can accentuate feelings of brokenness, loneliness, and unfulfilled desires. For others who love them can they sometimes elicit unrealistic expectations and unexpected disappointments. Holidays are “holy days” that we set apart for worship and right at the center of that is the idea of gratitude.
What difference could it make if instead of focusing on what we’d like but maybe don’t yet have, we concentrate of the things we have that indicate God has already blessed?
