Faith in the Storm
Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a storm, wondering why God allowed it in the first place? The disciples surely felt this way in Mark 6 when they struggled against the wind and waves, rowing with all their might. The irony? They were exactly where Jesus had told them to go. Yet, as they fought against the storm, Jesus walked on the water—seemingly about to pass them by—until He saw their fear and stepped into the boat, calming the sea.
Why did Jesus allow them to struggle? The answer is found in verse 52: “For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.” The disciples had just witnessed Jesus feed thousands with a few loaves and fish, yet they failed to carry that faith into their next challenge. How often do we do the same? We see God’s provision in one season, yet panic when a new trial arises.
One of the greatest challenges in the Christian life is trusting God in every circumstance. We are not immune to fear and frustration, but we are called to remember. God has been faithful before—He will be faithful again. What if, instead of fearing the storm, the disciples had rowed with confidence, trusting that Jesus would meet them on the other side? What blessings did they miss by allowing fear to overtake their faith?
The same is true for us. When storms arise, we can either panic or trust that God has already charted our course. He is with us in the waves, walking above our fears, waiting for us to recognize His presence. May we choose faith over fear, resting in the assurance that He never leaves us, and His plan is always greater than our understanding.
