About My Father’s Business

Luke 2:49 (KJV)

And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?”

Mary and Joseph had spent three long, exhausting days searching for Jesus, their hearts filled with worry, fear, and exhaustion. When they finally found Him in the temple, deep in discussion with the teachers, their emotions must have been overwhelming—relief mixed with frustration. And then came Jesus’ response: “Why were you searching for me? Didn’t you know I had to be about my Father’s business?”

At just twelve years old, Jesus was already fully committed to His purpose. His identity and mission were clear to Him. He was astonished that His earthly parents did not instinctively know where He would be. His heart was so consumed with the work of His Father that He could not imagine being anywhere else.

What about us? Are we so engaged in God’s calling that others know exactly where to find us—serving, witnessing, sharing His love? Or have we been distracted by the cares of this world? Each of us has been given a mission: to be about our Father’s business, sharing the Good News and making disciples. The Great Commission is for every believer.

When Christ returns, may He find us faithfully at work, living out His call. Let’s be so immersed in His will that there is no question where we are—right in the center of God’s purpose for our lives.

With Gratitude, Pastor Jesse
