Escaping the Spiritual Doldrums
Have you ever felt stuck—not in the routines of daily life, but in your walk with God? You go through the motions, you pray, you read the Word, yet something feels stagnant. You long for closeness with Christ, but no matter how much you desire it, you find yourself caught in the same struggles, the same distractions, the same battle between spirit and flesh.
You are not alone. Even the Apostle Paul wrestled with this inner turmoil, writing in Romans 7:19, “For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.” The flesh resists, even as the spirit longs for more of God. Over time, we settle into a place where we manage sin rather than overcoming it, where we are close enough to see Christ but not close enough to hear Him.
But God never intended for us to remain in this place. He calls us deeper, into a vibrant, living relationship with Him. One of the ways He has given us to break free from spiritual stagnation is fasting.
Fasting is not just about giving something up—it’s about gaining something greater. It is a surrender of self so that our hearts can be more fully attuned to God. When we fast, we quiet the voice of the flesh and make room for the Spirit to speak. We set aside distractions and hunger for His presence. And in that place of surrender, God meets us.
Are you longing for renewal? Do you desire to move beyond spiritual routine into true intimacy with Christ? If so, I invite you to join us this week as we study the fast that God desires. Through fasting, you may find the breakthrough your heart has been seeking—the closeness, the clarity, the revival of spirit that lifts you out of the doldrums and into the presence of the living God.
With Gratitude, Pastor Jesse
